The Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) is a registered voluntary welfare organisation in Singapore and a full member of the National Council of Social Service. We are also an approved Institution of Public Character authorised to receive tax-deductible donations in Singapore. We have been providing services to families, the elderly, children and young people with special needs since 1970.

AWWA provides six services namely, the Educational Services, Elderly Services, Integration Services, Family Services and Caregivers Support with the mission of empowering the disadvantaged in maximising their potential to lead dignified and independent lives.

TDS supports the following programmes for children with special needs under the AWWA Educational and Integration Services.

  • AWWA School offers special education to children aged from 7 to 18 years (e.g. challenging behaviours, autism spectrum disorder or other special needs - physical disability and cases of children with multiple disability)
  • AWWA SMILES Program offers specialised after school care for children with special needs from 7 to 18 years old. (e.g. therapy, social support etc after school hours ) 
  • AWWA Early Years Centre provides early intervention services for infants and children aged below 6 years (e.g. Speech or motor delay or Autism Spectrum Disorder etc) 

 

These 3 programmes focus on education, therapy (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and music therapy), social work and counselling services, and after school care for children with special needs.

Volunteers of Therapy Dogs, Singapore (TDS) are also strong supporters of GSDC's PAT (pet-assisted therapy) work. We have joined the club's PAT visits to Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled (BHID) since their adoption of the home in December 2002.

BHID has some 130 residents under the care of highly-motivated staff in a well-organised environment. It also has facilities to cater for daycare clients. GSDC's PAT work at BHID has been featured in Channel NewsAsia's Creature Comforts Series.

Bethany Methodist Nursing Home is a registered charity managed by the Methodist Welfare Services, with 303 beds within 5 wards and a rehabilitation centre. Focussing on providing quality residential nursing care, it provides services such as residential care, respite care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, speech therapy.

IMH / WH is a 2,425- bed acute tertiary psychiatric hospital located in a sprawling 37-hectare campus in Buangkok View. Set in a serene environment and well designed landscape, IMH is equipped with modern facilities to look after its close to 1900 psychiatric inpatients.

IMH/WH offers a multi-faceted and comprehensive range of psychiatric services targeted to meet the special needs of three groups of people, namely, (i) Children & adolescents, (ii) Adults and (iii) the Elderly. MINDSville@Napiri seeks to adopt a training and developmental model, focusing on acquisition of daily living skills and self-empowerment of persons with intellectual disability. We also aim to offer activities that address the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of our clients, supporting them in developing their potential and reintegration into their families and the community.

 

We provide the following residential programmes:

1.    Home For Adults With Intellectual Disability

This programme provides accommodation, care, supervision and rehabilitation for
persons with intellectual disability, age 19 and above.

 

2.    Hostel/Group Home For Adults With Intellectual Disability
This programme runs a Hostel for individuals with intellectual disability, age 19 and above and who have low support needs. It is suitable for persons who are fairly competent in basic self-care activities and have potential to learn to travel independently.
The Group Home seeks to train persons with intellectual disability who have the
potential to live independently in the community setting.

 

3.    Children's Wing
This sector provides accommodation, care and protection to children with intellectual disability, aged between 6 to 18.

 

At MINDSville@Napiri, we also operate a community-based programme at the Training and Development Centre which is MINDS' third Training and Development Centre. This is a day training programme which clients attend the centre from 9am to 4:30pm (only on weekdays) for training and after which they will return to their families. This programme aims to enhance trainees' quality of life through development and maintenance of daily living skills and development of their potentials.

Sunshine Welfare Action Mission (SWAMI) is a home for the aged-sick, disabled and homeless. Its aim is to serve the elderly in our society, providing them with quality care and services, and ensuring their well-being. The residents enjoy quality of life by being as independent as possible. Interaction amongst the elderly is encouraged through games and callisthenic exercises to keep them active. As family involvement is very crucial for the morale of the residents of the residents, SWAMI provides many opportunities for building ties through Family Days and Monthly Birthday Celebrations.

 

SWAMI provides a variety of services, comprising the following:

-     Residential Care which provides high-level long term care for frail, sick or infirmed elderly. This includes Dementia Residential Care for the demented residents in the home.

-     Case Management Service (CMS) which assists the elderly and their families in accessing the necessary medical and social services, crucial for the improvement of their quality of life and well being.

-     Home Medical Care & Home Nursing which is provided to homebound individuals at their residence. The aim is to promote, maintain or restore the health of individuals and to maximize their level of independence.

-     Home Help Services that are designed to provide the elderly with a range of services in order to enable them to remain in the community.

-     Home Rehabilitation Service which offers rehabilitative therapy to homebound elderly who are frail or are suffering from stroke in their homes.

-     Day Rehabilitation Centre which helps to improve and maintain the maximum functional ability of the elderly

-     Dementia Day Care Centre which provides relief to the caregiver by looking after the demented elderly during the day.

Thong Teck Home for Senior Citizens is set up by Thong Teck Charitable Institution with a mission to provide holistic care to the elderly so that they can age with Grace and Dignity regardless of race and religion.

The home located in Geylang East, is a well-run, 3-storey, purpose-built home with an idyllic landscaped garden for residents' relaxation and rehabilitation needs.

It caters for about 180 residents as well as some 25 daycare clients in its Day Rehabilitation Centre and Dementia Day Care Centre. Besides daily rehabilitation, the Home spices up residents' lives with various social activities such as karaoke, outings, performances by volunteers, animal therapy, etc.
