Hi Fellow Volunteers,
As usual, I am always late in sending out the report. I am loaded with works working on a priority over priority.... still working at this hour clearing as much emails as possible before the world cup final starts at 2:30AM
A big thank you to the TDS Volunteers for giving up the precious Saturday afternoon with the ever cheerful residents who always greet us with sweet smiles and always enjoy and benefit from our PAT session.
Present were:
Fiona Yeo with JJ and Mei Mei / JRT
Jelyn Kho with Fluffy / Shih Tzu
Adeline Ng with Bernice / Bernese Mountain Dog
Lyn Loh, niece Ashley Lum & friend Zach Tay with Kobi / Cojack
Lok Tin Chan & hubby Steven with Bobby / Shih Tzu
Yolanda Chin with Chewbacca / Labrador
Soo Fen Teng with Polar / Samoyed
Say Hoon - Helping Hand
Mabel Ho with Silky / Golden Retriever
Charlie Ho with Stallion / GSD
On behalf of Evangeline Koh, Mabel handed the photos to the respective residents who were delighted to receive the photos of themselves taken from last CNY visit. Thank you, Evangeline.
Soo Fen encouraged a couple of resident to handle jigsaw puzzle with the help from Say Hoon. It's a simple puzzle ... a good mental development exercise. Many thanks to Soo Fen who faithfully carry out this mental exercise from memory cards to jigsaw puzzle.
A warm welcome to Christina Lim who came and observed the PAT session. We shall look forward to seeing Christina and her dog, Brinkley / Golden Retriever, in action shortly.
Once again, many thanks to all of you and your dogs who bring love and laughter to their lives. As a saying, I quote:
Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back!
Don't expect love in returns;
Just wait for it to grow in their heart,
But if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.
Have a happy and blessed week ahead.
Warmest regards
Charlie Ho

Visit on 20 June 2010 - Ward 66A Institute of Mental Health (IMH)
Hi Hi,
We just had our monthly visit to IMH Ward 66A on 20 June 2010 :)
This time round 6 residents joined us for a stroll at the void deck. Most of them are very enthusiatic when they can go out of the ward for a walk.
The other volunteers and their dogs stayed behind in the ward to interact with the residents. A few of them did not appear to be as alert as they used to. However, our volunteers continue to keep their mind active and alert by engageing them in conversation and to ask them to recall the our names and our dogs names.
One of the resident's family memeber was there for a visit that day, and she even proudly showed the family member our dogs. Sure glad that our dog can be a conversation topic for the resident and the family member. A way to bond and interact :)
Short the visit maybe, but I think we did make a small difference in their life.
Once again, thank you to those who turned up that day.
1. Ivan with Tag
2. Evageline with Pepper and Perdi
3. Charlie and Mabel with Stallion
4. Lishan and Chin Yang with McMug
5. Janice Gan with Prince
6. Janice Ho with Zechy
7. Say Hoon
We are hoping to carry out the Doggy Dress-up Activity next week, and would require small dogs for this activity. Will update everyone again after confirmation. Hope to see you again next month :)
Best Regards,
Lishan

Visit on 18 June 2010 - Sunshine Welfare Action Mission Home (SWAMI)
Hi, fellow volunteers,
We had a very small team of 5 helping hands and 4 healing paws continue its monthly visit to SWAMI Home. As usual, the dementia residents were seated patiently awaiting our arrival and welcomed us warmly. Our one hour there was very productive as we started immediately walking exercise with the dogs and we wasted little time moving with our dogs among the dementia residents. They enjoyed very much taking the dog for a walk without much encouragement and persuasion ...
Haden, spaniel lap dog, stole the show by effortlessly taking an elderly in a whell chair, for a walk. Hats off, Haden, at this young age..
yes he is only a little above one.
PAT session at this home focussed very much on physiotherapy and communication. The dementia residents who interacted first with the dog and then started to communicate with the handler. The PAT team generally encourages them to remember stories of their family and/or their own dog.
My heartfelt thanks to the small PAT team who came and helped make this visit such great fun.
Mabel with Silky / Golden Retriever
Charlie Ho with Stallion / GSD
Alicia Isreal with Diva & Magic/ Labrador
Ang Lay Hui with Haden/ CKCS
Radha Nagesh/ Helping Hand
Have a nice and blessed week ahead.
Warmest regards
Radha

Visit on 11 June 2010 - Thong Teck Home for Senior Citizens (TTHSC)
Hello everyone
Yet again we had an enjoyable and rewarding visit with our dear friends at Thong Teck Home. A good number of residents were in attendance and really enjoyed seeing our furry friends again. This day was especially one for patting our lovely canines, even a few cuddles were had! It was wonderful to see some of our special friends with a good and happy smile on their faces and even some laughter. Even a few races in the wheelchairs were had with a few close finishes!
Though for most of our visit our friends seemed happy just to admire our precious pooches with their forgiving and soulful eyes.
Listed below are our ever-faithful volunteers and canines:
